Biography:

Leo Smigay was born 1900 in Choyno/Germany.

After his apprenticeship in sulpture he worked till 1920 as a miner in the northern part of Germany.
1920/21 he attended an privat art school in Frankfurt a. M./Germany.

During his stays in North Africa, Asia Minor and Asia Central in the years 1921-1924 he developed and refined his typical style of art in sculptures.

Since 1928 he worked as an free-lance artist in Nürnberg/Germany and founded among others the noted and celebrated group of artists "Der Kreis".

Leo Smigay died 1970 in Nürnberg/Germany.
