Inspirations

Brick wall fragments, fragments of buildings or architectural structures inspire Edler's work. The painter transforms characters, washed-out letters and tablets to sumptuously vibrating colors in order to impart the pure and tranquil beauty of decay.

It is not always possible to outline the fragments or tablets. The space between the structures is colored almost as richly as the objects themselves, swimming timelessly in the colored surface. The meaning of the painting lies in the balance between abstraction and concreteness, in the controlled interplay between powerful color surfaces and their forms.

Contrasts between light and dark sections, the interaction between matt and shimmering or bright elements, the composition of surfaces interacting with delicate letters are characteristic for the overall impression of Edler's works. She likes to flood parts of her paintings with brilliantly intensive color, forming richly structured thick layers.

Blurred edges allow the color to vibrate mysteriously. The artist works in layers, scratches the color surfaces, paints over them, puts paper on the screen and combines different materials in order to obtain numerous levels facilitating true immersion.
