Diether Kunerth
Vita

Biography:

Diether Kunerth was born in Sudetenland, Germany, in 1940.
He studied as a sculptor and painter at the Academy of Arts in Munich, Bavaria in 1967 as well as studying with Prof. Heinrich Kirchner.
In the next years he won a number of awards including the Art Award of Schwaben, the City Award of the town of Memmingen, and the Grand City Award of Augsburg. Today he lives and works in Ottobeuren, Germany, as a freelance painter, sculptor, and graphic artist. His travels take him often to paint and study in the Mediterranean, particularly Greece, and also in India and Bali

Through many decades of honing his style, he has arrived at the abstract/expressive simplicity. Character and mood are communicated not through the everday tools we commonly use--those that might be captured by the photographer--but through the use of daring shapes, colors and energetic brushwork.
Study trips into Mediterranean countries, India, Indonesia (free lance).

Doerte Neudert has known Diether Kunerth for more than 25 years. She can describe his work better than practically anybody, perhaps better than even the artist himself:
"Kunerth is not interested in producing a series of exotic pictures. Instead, with great sensitivity, he dares to make the leap between cultures, because it is there, within the realm of the unknown, that the essence of man and nature is revealed. Kunerth's painting is never simply depiction; it is the portrayal of characters that, even when in exotic settings, have validity and meaning. He has progressed through numerous stylistic periods and changes in his art to arrive at his present form of abstract simplicity."
